Port Clinton

A Historic Landmark on the Shores of Lake Erie

Port Clinton occupies a special place not only in Ohio history, but in the history of America. Founded in 1828 not long after the war of 1812, Port Clinton has been a mainstay of life on Lake Erie, thanks to its excellent harbor and easy access to the Portage River.

History Come to Life

In the last few decades, Port Clinton has become a bit more of a tourist destination, thanks to its picturesque scenery and close proximity to attractions Put-In-Bay, Cedar Point, the Jet Express, and Kelleys Island. The historic downtown remains in almost pristine condition, and is filled with restaurants, antique stores, gift shops, and of course, a number of historical places of note.

An Outdoor Sporting Paradise

Port Clinton has some of the best and most unique environments anywhere in the Midwest, and has been renowned for its fishing, hunting and birding around the world. In fact, Port Clinton has often been called “The Walleye Capital of the World,” boasting some of the best lake fishing anywhere in the globe. The region has also been recognized for its deer and game hunting.

Open Water Fun

Resting on the southern shore of Lake Erie, Port Clinton offers a variety of fishing, boating and jet skiing opportunities. Our harbor is also home to the jet express, the fastest ferryboat taking regular round trips to Put-In-Bay and Kelley’s Island. Take to the lake and enjoy the most fun you can have on the Great Lakes!
